Glad I have two reeds.
I read the forum posts. I watched the dvd. I talked to Moses. It still didn't sink in. DON'T OVER-WET the reed. I think this is something you have to pay attention to more if you play double reed instruments like Oboe and Bassoon like I do. With those, you have to soak the reed. Your brain gets in a pattern and it sticks. Even though you know you're not supposed to over-wet a duduk reed, you do. I did. The opening was big enough to drive a truck through. I was horrified. I couldn't believe what I had done. I had that same sick feeling you get when you get a dent in your car. It developed a tiny crack by the leather strip. I let it dry out for two days with the cap on and it's better and it plays, but not like it was. It opens up a lot faster while playing. Lesson learned! Yeah, I'll be ordering an extra reed this week. I solemnly swear that I will NEVER do that again! |
