I thought the Duduk was a 2 octave instrument, but only an assumption - I bought one because I really couldn't care less! Lol.
However it would be most useful if a second octave could be reached. So for example, the note A, 6 holes and thumb closed, how do I get the next A up an octave? Thanks for any responses. -------------------- Simon

Actually, thinking, the next A is all holes open - so I guess I mean the next B or C#.

Actually, thinking, the next A is all holes open - so I guess I mean the next B or C#. Hi Simon Sometimes your questions is a bit confusing, but you will, after a lot of practise, be able to reach a B or even C, but this depends on a lot of things: 1: Your duduk 2: the reed 3: your own skills /training etc. I have had duduks from 3 different makers, only one of them was /is good enough for reaching a decent clear B. The reed: should be of very good quality, f.x. all tones should be heard with great harmonic over/semitones. And you shall have very good lipcontrol and strenght so you can squeeze the reed to move a tone or more up with all holes open. Training: blow the A1 ( all holes open ) and then try to squeeze the reed like wah,wah wah, You will hear the clean A move up and down in pitch and suddenly one day, you will hear a clear Bb or B and if you are very lucky a C. I have only heard Levon Minassian doing this with some perfection on the melody "Yeraz " look it up on YouTube. If you want to avoid all this training. Then buy a duduk fx. in A with levers as shown here on this site in the fingering chart section. And if you want to see some dudukplayers playing with this instrument, then look up Shanttv on google. The armenian based TV station conducted a competition for duduks last year, a lot of them is also uploaded to YouTube look for ; Shanttv channel. 3-or 4 of the young dudukplayers use duduks with levers.
