What is the correct way to produce vibrato? Movses informed me it's done with the diaphgragm though it looks like the bottom lip is moving. This seems correct to me (like a singer). But the first instructional video says "the vibrato is done with the bottom lip--not moving the jaw--just these muscles." This is conflicting information no?

HI

wan working on the video - we took in consideration that player will know haw to play duduk before attempting to produce an vibrato.

you can do it w/ or wo/ using your diaphragm- the best way is to use your diaphragm

wan playing you need to separate each key, it's done with the diaphragm,
now you tray the vibrato w/ just your lip and then try the lip and diaphragm at the same time
it might take long time b4 you can master it but that will be the best way

MOses

Hi,
I'm new here, and have a question regarding vibrato too...

Is the vibrato done the same way on the high B (eg. the highest note in Hovern Engan)? That node already needs some extra lip-work to be reached, since it's outside the 'normal' range of the duduk, and on most - if not all - of my mouthpieces, I find it hard to play that note and vibrate it at the same time.

just because there is Vibrato you don't need to use it all the time smile.gif
but just in case if you need to play that B and produce a Vibrato at the same time smile.gif you can first practice the lip work - it can be achieved by not only pressing your 2 lips as hard as you can- yes in this case you can't mimic vibrato - you can pinch the key by turning your duduk 1/8 of a turn / practise it for some time
then practice the vibrato by using diaphragm of your abdomen tray this for some time it's the correct way of producing vibrato / now if you need to pinch that key and vibrato at the same time it will be not that hard at all

Sure, but it sounds good when Vatche Hovsepian or Jivan Gasparyan does it, so I want to know how it's done! smile.gif

I've tried the 1/8 turn as well, but when I do this, it's still hard to get a good vibrato using my reeds. One can make something that reminds of using vibrato by controlling the breath from the abdomen, but to me, this sounds more like tremolo than vibrato (tremolo is change of amplitude, vibrato is change of pitch). I'm guess I'm just not good enough - and I guess this also has to do with how one is pressing the lips in order to achieve higher pitch (when not using the 1/8 'trick').... but I guess this is a topic for another tread.

it's hard
one problem for me was i had to start playing myself at first ( not Wise ), and in process have made bad habits such making a vibrato by just using my lips sad.gif moving the duduk back and forward

since July i have been taking lessons with Albert Vartanyan, he told me to hold off asking such questions, that i still have long ways to learn before we get to technique of producing a vibrato.

i forget

you can't apply vibrato at the beginning of the note - or on the high pitch - you can only use vibrato to end the note

PS. Sasun jan smile.gif Wan are you going to surprise me w/ a Dle YAman ??
