Ok, I must confess..I am afraid that I just made a mistake!
I wanted a duduk. I saw the ones in duduk.com but they are expensive and I went to take a look around. I have found this site armenianinstruments.com and saw that is was about a master named Karen Hakobyan. I sent him a mail asking if he sell his duduks and how much they cost. A very nice and friendly man name Karapet Melik-Barkhudarov answer me saying that he was responsible for the selling department. He told me that a duduk in A with reed would cost me around 80 U.S dollars. For me the price was great, especially because I am learning and it is a big risk [I may never learn ]. I said yes and he is sending the duduk with 3 reeds. I asked him about the quality of the product and he told me that they are great and that master Karen takes care of each duduk. My doubt is...wasn´t it to low price for a quality product? In Armenia 80 US dollars is a lot of money but comparing with the prices that I see around I get a bit insecure. What is your opinion...please? |

What is your opinion...please? Get yourself a pro reed from this site if your reeds are also "souvenirs" like mine. I can tell you there is a big difference in the looks and quality intonation! Get the SOFT reed, it plays right off the bubble wrap! I pray you learned your lesson like me. I think that investing $205 plus FREE SHIPPING for an A duduk from duduk.com is a BARGAIN, when you consider the countless hours of musical ectasy you will get, there is really not a price for that kind of experience! Well, Adianez, I also fell for "a good deal" on e-bay, by a "master" duduk maker and even got NINE reeds with my 3 duduks, even a SVHI, a master Gasparyan CD, etc. all for US$190 and $15 shipping from Yerevan, Armenia. I wish I had researched my options FIRST. See, I joined this wonderful duduk forum AFTER I made the mistake also. My consolation is that with a pro reed from Moses @ duduk.com, my "souvenir duduk" is more resonant and warm now. I have X9 reeds that are pretty much WORTHLESS. Get yourself a pro reed from this site if your reeds are also "souvenirs" like mine. I can tell you there is a big difference in the looks and quality intonation! Get the SOFT reed, it plays right off the bubble wrap! I pray you learned your lesson like me. Regards, El Catalan The question for El is that the 9 reeds are really useless ?. how about the body of the other duduks? |

I will wait for my duduk to see how it works. Just another question....if I buy a professional reed in duduk.com will it make a good job in a not so good duduk? It made a big difference with my Apricot duduk- wood aged X 30 years. With my "best" Simonian reed, the sound was sweet, but not as resonant, or as vibrant, it was a bit "muffled". I also experienced a lot of embouchure fatigue, even the soft reeds, that was very annoying and frustrating! Ah, but with my new pro reed, the sound is "angelical", yes with the same lips playing it! My embouchure is more relaxed and predictable! I notice that when I play with my best Simonian reed, my dogs are more restless, and my wife closes all doors in the house... But with my pro reed, even little sparrows come to my "hacienda patio" and stared, and then they might also sing! And the wife seems more happy with a tiny smile... Regards, El Catalan |

Hello,
I would like to buy a duduk from duduk.com in the next time. I've seen the A duduk at 205$ and also the A duduk made by Karen. I've readed your posts on the forum, so I have a question: which duduk would fit better for a beginner? Master Karlen is the same with MKS? I didn't quite understood that out of your messages. I'd be grateful if you could help me in this issue. Thank you. |

Hello MKS is Karlen Matevosyan Karen is Karen Mukayelyan Duduk.com is the duduk's made by our company better for a beginner - better the quality easear the learning processes no guessing - if th duduk is tuned correctly or the reed is in tune wood that Karen is using - it's only aged maximum of 2 years - it's much lighter - the tuning is nice - and consistent - reed's are made by our company - we do our best to fine tune them for you - but still the instrument thous not have the fine sound, the tuning changes in some cases as you play - since i's softer wood it's absorbing more moisture - it's the same duduk sold all over the net for $200 ~250 wood used my duduk.com is aged 5 years before the initial fabrication is made - then it's imported to USA - the wood is heavy and strong - tuning is done in 3 stages in duration of 2 years, in this 2 years we treat the duduk "blanks" w> minerals and oil, it make the wood even stronger, if any changes in tuning we fine tune them and save it in a moisture controlled room - if the changes in tuning are to raped or it changes quickly or it develops any sort of bend or a crack we disregard the duduk, - reed's are made by our company w/ imported material from Armenia the choice is your -------------------- ...: † :...Powered by Apricot Juice ...: † :...
