I have seen different kinds of reeds ones with the leather strip and ones without. What would be the difference?

leather strip: is generally placed to keep the reed from cracking - or to stop the cracks advancement
Not every reed needs an leather strip.

Most of the time wan we make our reed's we place leather strip on them since we don;t know who will be playing the reed - if he can or is able to glue leather strip on it.
So just to safeguard most of our reed's have leather strip

yes we did

7 or 8 years a go we did get some from him.
out of 50 we did found 10 or 12 super good reed's, my only problem was that he was making reed';s for only 2 duduks A & Bb - and it was made to his duduk's specifications - it was to long for MKS , SAM & OMO duduk's, so his Bb duduk reed's worked 70~80% in tune on our A duduk's
