I am a new owner of a duduk. smile.gif I am, however, having trouble figuring out how to control the sound and play the notes individualy. I am used to playing a different wind instrument (the recorder) and it is not at all as difficult as the duduk! If anyone could help me I would be very appreciative! biggrin.gif

I realize that this is probably the most elementary part of owning a duduk is to know HOW to play it, but I can't figure out how to play it well and correctly. I only have instructions on paper, not live or in person. That may be why I still can't play it. rolleyes.gif If ANYONE can help me I would appreciate it a great deal! sad.gif

Thank you for the welcome and personal assistance! biggrin.gif I will do my best to answer your questions.

#1. The duduk was made by Master Suren but purchased from a man who has a masters degree in music
and has been playing the duduk for over 20 years.

#2. yes I can get the reed open enough to blow through but no sound comes from it when I do(I don't know
if this is normal or not).

I don't get any sound when the reed is played by itself. I don't know if I am supposed to 'hum' into it or just blow, but when I just blow no sound comes out of it.

#3. When all fingers are off the duduk I am supposed to get the key of A

#4. I don't know because it is very difficult distinguishing any difference in the notes.

I hope this helps you help me! Thank you again Moses, I really appreciate it! smile.gif

lets assume that the duduk & the reed a good wink.gif
did he play the duduk for you ? was it used or new ??

you need to get the sound from the the reed first - take baby steps - assuming that your is reed good -
at first play the reed by it's self - if you get a nice study sound play it for a day or 2 your should get C# or C just the reed by it's self - then place it on to your duduk -> start all open you will get A or A# ( At first it will be bit # ) - > wan you can play all open close #1 hole -> then #2 > so on ... take baby steps wink.gif good luck

Thank you again! It was not ever played before I got it, completely new duduk. I do know that it is made of apricot wood and an aging process. wink.gif When I play the reed by itself, should I simply blow into it, or make a humming noise into it at the same time as I blow? unsure.gif

thanks!

Ohhhhhh.....ok! I thank you again for your advice and help, without which I would be lost!! smile.gif Do you know where I can buy a good reed? sad.gif When I play the reed, it does open very wide and nothing but air comes out of it. So it seems that it is the reed that is the problem.

Thxs again!
