Hello all! New to the forum!

I received the duduk as a gift from Yerevan. But received no information concerning its maker.

This is the mark on the duduk itself.

Anyone know what the symbols mean?

I figured out the reed...

Hello welcome to duduk forum
in Armenian Կ-Թ = English K-Th, its masters initials, i have met him in year 2000, his in village of Byurakan / Armenia , can remember his name.. his instruments are one of the most popular duduk's in gift & souvenir shops, he also makes nice tube like cases for them, also makes zurna in one key & many other wooden gifts and household items.

as for the key of your duduk.. can;t tell much from the pictures
if you can, gave me the dimensions of the duduk, messmates, from the tip of the duduk to the center of #1 & #6 holes

Good luck / Moses

Thank you. That is interesting.

The dimensions are as follows:

From tip to #1 - exactly 2"
From tip to #6 - exactly 4"
Overall length seems to be appx. 14" and a 1/4"

Tuning to the piano it seems to be in the key of 'C', but I'll leave that up to your expertise based on the dimensions provided.

The duduk itself sounds really good, however, I want to get my hands on a duduk that can reach higher notes.

I took some more pictures:

are you sure #6 hole on the top is 4" ??

wan playing just the reed it's self what key do you get ?

looks like your reed's are made by master Ararat, he makes some good reed's, if you in Yerevan get hold of him, also take your duduk and test each one of them, will find some good reed's

The 6th hole from the top counting downwards is 8".

That's pretty awesome that you can tell by the reed who the maker is. I myself do not reside in Yerevan. I live in Canada.

When playing the one pictured on the left alone without the duduk it plays the key of C - but it is extremely difficult to play.

When playing the one pictured on the right alone without the duduk, it plays B, B flat and A when adjusting the fastener. And it is really easy to play and use it that one mainly

measurements are not MKS standard

you can try A reed & G reed, by taking of or adding some thread on the back of the reed you can tune to get the best sound / tuning for your duduk ,

Dear Miknov

Maybe I should´nt interfer in these mails, but I can assure you it helps to be little polite smile.gif The measures you gave to duduk.com of your maybe good duduk, does not match the measures of the MKS duduks, you can look up the MKS duduks here on this site or google the name, MKS is a reliabel maker of duduks in Yerevan.

But first of all to determine if your duduk is ok and in pitch, it is essential to get a good reed for it, it will help you a lot to determine your duduk´s quality.
Then try it out with a piano or a tuner tone by tone, if you get near to the pitch or at it, your duduk is ok. It is then up to you to learn to play it.

If your reed played by itself without being attached to the duduk, gives a C then your duduk should be a A duduk, but it depends on that the duduk and reed is bought together as a match.

Best regards

Steen/Hrimnir
