hi,
i bought a duduk in armenia a few weeks ago. i also bought two reeds of different price ranges. i got the instrument in a proper instrument shop, so it is not a tourist souvenir but a real instrument. the thing is: both reeds have different tunings (one of them is A, the other is higher), but i dont know, which one fits to the tuning of my duduk. any tips. how i can find out? the scale played with the higher reed seems more precise, but that could just be my bad playing skills. also, the sounds of the reeds are very different from each other. one (the A one) is quite harsh and rather loud, and it seems impossible to get the deep soft sound out of it, that defines the typical sound of a duduk. is that just a matter of technique and handling of the instrument? thanks. |

Hello
welcome any marks on the duduk ? name ? can you post a picture of it. need to know the dimensions of your duduk from the top ( tip that you insert the reed ) of the duduk to the center of #1 hole on the top & from the tip of the duduk to the center of #6 hole. what key are your reeds tuned to, play the the reed it's self and tel me the key you get. just the reed it's self MOses -------------------- ...: † :...Powered by Apricot Juice ...: † :...

hi moses
sorry for the late answer. there are no marks on the duduk and no manufacturer name. the dimensions of the duduk are: 4.5 cm to middle of first hole and 19.5 cm to the middle of the sixth hole with one reed i get an A sharp, when having the first six holes closed. the reed itself sounds somewhere between d and d sharp, depending on where i position the wooden "tuning" (?) ring. with my other reed i get a G sharp note. that reed alone sounds like an a sharp or b, depending on how strongly i breath into it. it has a rather sharp sound, not like the typical duduk sound. any ideas?? |

Hello
looks like you have a A duduk at first most any reed will produce a sharper sound, just play your #1 reed most likely it will be normal soon. you can always fine-tune your reed as you play.. MOses -------------------- ...: † :...Powered by Apricot Juice ...: † :...
