I'm a professional oboist wanting to buy an instrument so that I can finally learn to play this amazingly beautiful instrument we all love.

I do a lot of music instruction myself, and I appreciate all the good advice here to beginners about soft reeds and starting with an A instrument. This may very well be a good choice for me as well, but...

I've also noticed that those who play duduk professionally in the recording industry seem to be talking about a different kind of instrument that has keys - this is a design that helps one to play a more precise diatonic (Western) scale, yes?

I've been making and playing my own oboe reeds for years, for the whole family of both Baroque and modern instruments, so I do understand the necessity of a good reed, and know how finicky reeds can be in different weather conditions, etc.

What advice would professional duduk players here have for me about getting started? Which instrument(s)? Which reeds?
Any teachers you would recommend in the Seattle, WA or San Francisco, CA areas?

BTW, I'm under no illusion that duduk will be "easy" for me because of my oboe background. Western conservatory training does not really prepare one for the complexities of the beautiful pitch inflections and expressive range of duduk, and I fully expect to work hard and develop my ear in ways I probably can't even imagine yet.

Thanks so much -
