I need some help now, please! I pulled my A duduk reed out this morning
but instead of a C or C#, I am getting a plump D! What is going on? It will not go
down, but may even go to E flat or F!
I made sure that the reed was moist and open. My order came with a total
of 9 reeds, three for each duduk in G, A and B (from Andranik Simonian- ebay).
The funny thing now is that I do not have a reed that plays C.
I even have one reed that sounds a high F-........HELP ME PLEASE!!! Regards,
El Catalan.

yes as a souvenir

in the best case scenario you might get hold of some good reed's and your duduk's might sound ok

same seller is offering duduks by one other duduk "master"
karen hamobyan is the name - who is supposedly the master of Armenian Wind instruments

less then 2 years a go Maestro Karlem Mirzoyan - not to be mistaken by Maestro MKS - told me that he has a person in Armenia who is willing to work for me in our work shop in Yerevan Armenia, to make duduk, shvi, paku, bluel
will long story short we have agreed to work, but at first we had to test him and see how good he was, have send him the necessary funds, asked him to make one of each, just to see haw good of an master he is - after 4 months - i have received a bundle that has cost me $175 for Shipping by DHL - to my surprise it was worst then a Souvenir - i still have 2 or 3 of his "masterpieces" and every time a walk in customer wishes to see the difference / our duduk.com duduk and some of the others - karen hakobyans duduk is #1 duduk we offer to them to see

as for Maestro Karlen Mirzoyan , i have big respect for him, he has created and re/created many Armenian instruments, Hamshna Zurna, Tav Shvi, one of the first Bass duduk's and all of his wood work was don by Master MKS, Master RR (Ruben Rushanyan ) - never in our countless conversations w/ Maestro Mirzoyan has told me that Karen Hakobyan has made or helped to make an single instrument

it's a shame that people are taking advantage of well known and respected musicians to offer some toy for seal on ebay / web - it's a shame

sorryyy i had to get this out of my system
way to many people are getting hurt by opportunistic SOB's that are out to still

ohmy.gif sad.gif Well, thank you very much for that clarification! I am devastated now. I have just "wasted" US$200 on duduks that may be worthless- ouch! I was a victim of deceptive business practices!?
I pray that others do no fall for this "Armenian ebay seller" like I did. I will do the best with what I have right now, but will definitely purchase my next duduks from Duduk.com, period. Thank you again for your time. Regards, El Catalan.

Well, I think there may still be hope for me. I have decided to get at least one "soft" C reed from Moses, and I hope that will help me until I can purchase the A duduk from him. It will definitely be better than the ones I already have.

On the question of reeds, I am looking for a medium/ hard reed for my GHA duduk in A and was wondering if one of the pro reeds from this site would be compatible? Would it need much tuning etc?

Many thanks

Alan

GHA is master OMO's kid - so i assume his using OMO's tuning and i hope his making duduk's the same way ( MKS Tunning ) - if he is then yes our reed's will work on them

our reed's will work w/ any duduk thats made by Maestro MKS's standards

Hello,

My OMO duduk in C arrived yesterday (after a brief stay in customs and excise) and I have to say it is a truly beautiful instrument which I am looking forward to gigging with. I also bought a medium pro reed from yourselves which has a lovely sound to it and got me wondering- what hardness of reed should be used when? Is it a matter of personal preference? or do beginners start on a soft reed and work up to a harder one? or do they just give different sounds for different occasions?

Cheers

Hello

beginners start on a soft reed and work up to a harder reed - many never even play the hard reed, most use soft & medium reed's - so most of the time it is matter of personal preference
each reed has it's different sound, softer reed's have bit of buzzing sound, harder are more nicer
