hello someone,please explane my,it's a differents between a professional and intermediary duduk in the sound.I have one semi professional duduk and when I play it my sound is very different by sound of duduk in the albums of Gasparian.

I think the biggest difference between a semi-professional and professional duduk is intonation.
The professional instrument will be closer intune but semi-professional will still sound good with the right reed.

Try some different reeds

as for the difference b/n intermediate and pro-duduks, it is not as simple, as reverberation, or where you play at all. everything is about the wood , a duduk is made of, and the cane of the reed.
1- whether it is made of apricot tree or some other;
2-the age of the wood / how dry it is, 4 years min./
3-which part of the tree is used/ the core is the best/.

4-the cane for the reeds must have grown in dry regions/ not water cane/;
5-the shape of the reed is most important. you should know where to cut it thin in order to vibrate well,
and to acquire this nasal sound, which so specific for the duduk.

these are the basic issues that make a duduk a professional one. an intermediate duduk will not sound as master Gasparyan"s or Yeghish Manoukian"s, even if you play in a cathedral.
another important issue, once you have such a duduk, is how you care for it. Good luck!

mmm,,, all true; but the 'necessary reverb' can help with ones percpective of he instrumen, ..., I live in a tower-bloc with a spiral staircase: 'yum-yum' reverb to help on 'grasp the nettle' of the sound,so so as to speak,...in not s o many words...

the spiral staircase is the ideal premises for playig. it gives not only good reverb, but also a natural delay.
but the first condition is high quality duduk. i have made duduks from all kind of wood-cherry, pear, apple, sycamore & so on. but, believe me, no other like the apricot. maybe the plum is a good substitute to a certain extent.
reverberation does not make one a good player.

I agree that playing in the right environment does help the sound as well as having a pro duduk and well matched reed.

I live in Nova Scotia, and there we travel out to our cottage at the lake. The suroundings act like a huge ampitheature. The duduk echoes as if you were playing through a microphone and can be heard as clear as a pin drop all over the entire lake

As for gasparian's sound; the closest I've ever come to that is by using an OMO duduk with either an MKS or MTM reed.

What makes an duduk PRO or intermediate
is it the wood that duduk was made ?? it's not old enough ? is it the workmanship or the quality of the sound ?? tuning ????
If the duduk is not good enough to be a PRO because of the wood age or the kind of wood it's made of, then yes go for it get an intermediate duduk, but if Te sound quality & the tuning are wrong, if the duduk maker is just a beginner and is not able to make duduk's that can meet the standards of Armenian duduk then save your your hard earned $$$ and get a Pro duduk.

#1 the wood / location of the tree was from, what part of the tree, ageing - 1 step ? or was it aged then pre-cut then aged again , cutting & haw the blanks was cut. it's ideal to get a wood from location that has atlist 50~to~70 days of snow or -0 in a year, it's important to know what kind of Apricot it was, each kind of Apricut wood has its own characteristics, many masters have many secrets, ways of harvesting and aging the wood.

#2 Who made the duduk - haw it was made - haw it was treated & Tuned - was it 1 step tuning or 3 step tuning/aging ? 3 step takes additional year, so the duduk that we made this morning will be available to you in a year, in next 12 months it will be played, fine tuned aged and treated w/natural oils and minerals over and over..................

#3 The Reed - Who made the reed - location of the harvest - material - ageing - tuning

in years of collecting, playing and making professional duduk's we have found that Apricot Tree wood is the one and only wood that works best for our Armenian duduks.

Have duduk's made of Glas, Cristal, Acrylic, Plastic that's used to make good or high grade clarinets, bone, wood from all over the world but still after spending so much time & having soo much fun of making duduk's the answer is Apricot tree wood.

There are some fish
Mostly perch but there could be also trout.

Anyways, the acoustics out there are really good. Could be because it's so quiet ( unless you're playing zurna )

I would like to know the proper way to mic a duduk; how to get the best sound with no hiss??

That's like lying to yourself. You need to practice in a place with NO echo whatsoever, try an open field (no mountains around!), like a "steppe". Then, after a lot of practicing, you can go back to the ECHO place and you will get blown away by the sound! I am not talking about duduk in particular, it applies to any musical instrument.

cheap one is not teh best way to go

duduk's that are sold at ararat music or larkam are the same duduk that duduk.com is offering under " duduk's by Karen " it's the same master
