Hi everyone.

I stumbled across this site while searching for Armenian instruments.

I am very interested in learning to play the duduk, but I don't have any experience with woodwind instruments.

I LOVE how those type of Armenian instruments sound esp. the duduk. I used to play the piano a while back (as an amateur), I want to learn music again. I forgot almost everything so I would consider myself an absolute beginner.

I am wondering for the duduk if a beginner should start learning the duduk at once, or something easier at first then "move up" to the duduk? What is typically done/recommended?

The others I'm thinking about are shvi, blul, or pku.

How would they rank in difficulty for a beginner and if it matters which one is more closely related to the duduk so it's easier to "move up"? As for size and sound I think the pku is closest, right? But is it appropriate?

Appreciate any advice, thank you!!

Hello

Welcome to Duduk forum

Most of the teachers will start w/ shvi. this is the case for kids, that are under 13 years of age, whs lungs are not fully developed yet.

if your working on your playing / fingers yes sure use a shvi to start...
