hi
i've just received my duduk a couple of hours ago and started exploring it, i just found out that this is way more difficult than i thought.
so i might ending buying the learn dvds on this site.

for now i just have one question, it is normal to have a loud hiss sound that air makes when playing? i've heard many duduk records and i can hear this hiss on solo duduk records but very quiet. am i blowing air too hard? or i'll just have to remove the hiss after i record it?

Click Here and you can hear a recording of me "playing" so you can know what i mean, please despiste that is not well played as i only received my duduk a couple of hours ago and have absolutly no experience in this instrument or any woodwind piece.

thank you smile.gif

Hello

You're off to a good start smile.gif
The reed only being a couple of hours old will probably be hard to work with at first (especially if it is a hard reed) It will take some time to break in a new reed.

Every new reed I get, I wet the tip and massage the playing part of the reed to help seal the pores and ease the break in period. Also, if the reed opens up too wide, it will be harder to play and might produce more of a hiss sound. Gently clamp the reed with the closing cap and wait a few minutes, then try again.

The more you play, the more you strengthen the muscles in your cheeks and it will get easier to play.
Someone will probably add more to this but I hope this helps.

Good luck smile.gif
